Salt Water, Explained by the People Who Live It
Salt water hot tubs run at roughly 1,500 to 3,000 ppm of salt - more than ten times less salty than the ocean - and generate their own sanitizer from that salt, continuously and automatically. When the system is set up correctly, it essentially runs itself - most owners barely think about it. When it isn't, owners fight low output, odours, and confusing readings. The difference is almost always in the initial setup.
As New Brunswick's exclusive Arctic Spas dealer, salt water is the system we sell, install, service, and use at home ourselves. We support salt water systems of every make: startup calibration, salt cell cleaning and replacement, output tuning for your bather load, and honest advice about conversions before you spend money on a kit.
A note on corrosion, because we hear the worry often: at proper levels, salt is not what damages hot tubs - unbalanced water chemistry is. Keep pH and sanitizer in range, inspect the cell a few times a year, and a salt system will quietly do its job for years.

Occasionally, yes. The system generates sanitizer continuously, but an occasional oxidizing treatment after heavy use helps clear contaminants. It's part of the simple routine we'll teach you.
